News: Haunts Open This Weekend; China's Halloween Blowback

If you're not screaming at your minions to get your holiday haunt ready or croaking at your crampuses to get them ready for the crampus loft coming up, it is almost December, and if your voice doesn't sound like this, what are you even doing? In international news, Halloween costumes are taking jabs at the Chinese government and flailing economy have led to a crackdown in China. A number of Chinese youth have been detained by police for their political expression at the Halloween parades, and Chinese tech companies have been instructed by authorities to rectify content related to Halloween costumes and ban Halloween posts that violate the core values of socialism. Costumes that have garnered international attention include references to China's COVID restrictions, frustration over the country's record high youth unemployment rate, and at least one person dressed as Winnie the Pooh, a character is often censored in China due to its apparent physical resemblance to Chinese presidency. Halloween has long been a somewhat touchy subject in China, with authorities previously arguing that scary makeout

1:41 could cause public panic and others decrying the celebration as an unwelcome Western influence. After three years of COVID lockdowns and last year's historic protests, this year's Halloween celebrations took on extra political significance for certain revelers back in the US side from scary to marriage. The Factory of Terror in Canton, Ohio is following a trend of using their venue to host a family friendly Christmas event for the holiday season. Operating select dates now through December twenty third, the Ohio Christmas Factory will feature light shows, music, Christmas characters, photo opportunities, decorations, a hot chocolate bar, giant gingerbread house, and more. About twenty percent of the venue will be transformed. For example, the pirate themed haunt is being converted to a Caribbean Christmas featuring palm trees and recorded holiday music with steel drums. A tunnel with light effects and a moving walkway becomes Tinsel Tunnel.

2:38 The Room of Mirrors is now Mary Mays Kim Shapiro, bar manager at Factory of Terror, says that a Christmas event allows for a broader appeal. The demographics of people who like Christmas is much bigger than people who think this is just a haunted house. We're starting to be a seasonal attraction, not just a haunted house. Tickets are on sale now, starting at twenty three to ninety five for adult general admission and seventeen ninety five for children's general admission. After a successful twenty twenty three season Terror Vault, the Initiation in San Francisco, California, will come back for a four night revival February twenty third and twenty fourth and March first and second. Guests are invited to a tender recruitment seminar for Insight, a spiritual cult whose sole purpose is to open your eyes to the consciousness within. As guests become indoctrinated, they are able to soon see horrors hiding in the darkness and around them. As cult members and their leaders nefarious plans for mutilation and murder become all too real if you survive the initiation. Tickets for this limited run event are now on sale for seventy dollars.

Zombie Joe's Underground Theater Group and Force of Nature Productions combine forces to bring a classic Christmas Carol to North Hollywood, California. Come out December fourth teenth through seventeenth. After two years of a stationary parade, their traditional parade is back. The crew of Crampus is pleased to offer the first accessible and inclusive parade in New Orleans, with accessibility row on Independent Street, between Royal and Burgundy Streets. In this two block section, there are areas for people with limited mobility. There is an area with a host providing audio descriptions of the parade for people that are blind, and there's an American Sign Language ASL interpreter for people that are deaf or hard of hearing, and a quiet zone for children with sensory processing needs. Following the parade will be an after party at Ratziall and bud Rips. Costumes are are encouraged, but not required. Instead of a traditional admission fee, guests are asked to make a donation in whatever amount they can. Crampus Fest is returning to Market Square in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, December fifth, for its eighth annual event. Admission is free. This holiday walk through haunt will take place December eighth and ninth, and fifteenth and sixteenth from seven to ten pm. Located inside a truly haunted one hundred plus year old building, Pinhead's Graveyard will delight thrill seekers as they encounter iconic horror movie characters with a scary Christmas twist. Guests will also get to take pictures with Crampas and Santa Otis. Tickets will be available for cash at the door for thirty per adult twenty per child.
